Overview

About the Department

The Training, Rehabilitation & Placement Department equips persons with visual impairment with the practical skills they need for independent living, learning and employability. Through structured programmes in Braille, Orientation & Mobility (O&M), Activities of Daily Living (ADL), adapted ICT and life skills, the department supports learners, trainees and adults to build confidence, independence and readiness for education and work. It also offers guidance on placement and transition to learning institutions and the labour market.

Our Mandate

To plan and implement rehabilitation, training and placement programmes that enhance independence, life skills, employability and social integration for persons with visual impairment, in collaboration with families, institutions and partners.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training supports learners and adults to manage personal care, grooming, household tasks and other daily routines with greater independence.

Adapted ICT Training

Adapted ICT Training equips learners and adults with skills to use computers, mobile devices and accessible software to study, work and communicate.

Braille Literacy Training

Braille Literacy Training equips learners and adults with skills in reading and writing Braille, supporting literacy, education progression and independent communication.

Orientation & Mobility Training

Orientation & Mobility Training develops safe travel skills, spatial awareness and confidence in moving independently at home, school, work and in the community.

Placement Support

Placement Support helps trainees transition into employment, self-employment or further training, and works with employers to promote inclusive workplaces.

Rehabilitation & Psychosocial Support

Rehabilitation & Psychosocial Support provides counselling, guidance and empowerment for persons with visual impairment and their families as they adjust to changes in vision, education or work.
